Apropos to David Zou's Guest Editorial ' Debunking Zuu and Zou steoreotype, in Zokuomthawn Vol.IV, No. 09. Oct. 2006, i would like to add some complimentary comments. That, Zuu has a deep root in our culture. It is not only the Zou culture but also the so called Zomi or eimi culture where Zuu has a great cultural significance. It is a part and parcel of our culture. Zuu has been used as a medium in our socio-cultural life. No marriage, death or any festivals was complete without Zuu. They drink and dance in merrymaking, It brings social cohesion. It reflects our culture and the creativeness of our pi leh pute. It is not justifiable that we simply dump a part of our culture just because some foreigners object to it. Instead, we should try to learn the tips and tricks of brewing those Zuu (rice beer). They are more safe, better and economical than our so called Contessa or Royal Stag. It is a shame that we could not even preserve the unique knowledge of our pi leh pute. The locally brewed Zuu (rice beer) shows the uniqueness of our culture. No doubt, Chirstianity have enlightened all walks of our life. Thanks to the Welsh missionaries. But, Do we necessarily need to dump our traditional culture to embrace Christianity? The Nagas embraced Christianity even before we know about it, but they still kept their traditional culture intact. Why can’t we?

Zuu, whatever it may be, is made for drinking, not for a fight stimulant. Drink, if you cannot abstain, and make merry. Just don’t fight. Everything excess is bad and against Christianity. Even reading the Bible 24x7 may not be good. Who knows! For the more you read the more doubts and unanswerable questions will develop into your mind. Reading the Bible with a purpose only heals your mind and soul. Thus, the phrase ‘Zou leh Zuu’ cannot be justified, unless only the Zous drink. However, it will still be applicable as long as we failed to learn manners and self-control when drinking, and as long as we fight when drinking. Others drink too, but why not "Zuu leh Paite’ or ‘Zuu leh Vaiphei’. Just for one simple reason. They know how to keep secrets. They Drink and Fight too. But they have a better sense of humor and know how to respects their elders. We don’t fight because of drinking Zuu, but because we cannot control our mind and sentiments when drinking. So, lets try to learn not to express our feelings and sentiments only when drinking. This gives a bad name to your favorite companion Zuu.
